What is Open Campus (EDU)?
Open Campus (EDU) is a blockchain-based decentralized education protocol whose core objective is to revolutionize the global education industry. The project aims to leverage Web3 technology to address issues in traditional education systems, such as the undervaluation of educators, barriers students face in accessing educational resources and loans, and diploma and certificate fraud.Open Campus is committed to creating a more equitable, transparent, accessible, and creator-centric educational ecosystem that returns control over educational content and its economic benefits to educators and learners.

Project Positioning and Core Philosophy
The core philosophy of the Open Campus protocol is to empower educators and learners. As a community-driven platform, it enables creators of educational content to own and monetize their work, while learners gain access to more flexible and verifiable learning paths.Through blockchain technology, Open Campus aims to ensure the security, transparency, and verifiability of educational experiences, thereby enhancing the quality and credibility of education.
Technical Foundation and Token Economy

The EDU token is the native utility token of the Open Campus Protocol. It is issued based on the ERC-20 standard on the Ethereum blockchain and has been extended to support the BNB Chain (BEP-20) and Arbitrum networks. The total supply of EDU tokens is 1,000,000,000.According to public information, as of this writing, the circulating supply is approximately 790 million. The EDU token was first issued via Binance Launchpad in April 2023 at an issuance price of $0.05. Token holders can participate in the protocol’s ecosystem through staking, governance voting, and other means.

Core Components

- Publisher NFTs: Educators can mint their original educational content as Publisher NFTs, which represent ownership and promotion rights for that content. This enables content creators to generate revenue directly from their work and share those proceeds with co-publishers.
- EDU Chain: Open Campus is building a blockchain specifically designed for educational applications, aimed at optimizing educational DApps, content copyright management, and the issuance of digital credentials, while maintaining interoperability with the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
- Open Campus ID & Credentials: This project is developing a blockchain-verified digital identity system that provides learners and educators with tamper-proof digital credentials, effectively combating diploma fraud and ensuring the authenticity of learning outcomes.
- Pencil Finance: This is an Arbitrum-based on-chain student loan platform designed to provide educational loans to students in emerging markets. It has already deployed initial loans in Indonesia and the Philippines and plans to expand into African markets, thereby creating a new category of real-world assets (RWAs).
Recent Developments and Partnerships
The Open Campus Protocol continues to advance its ecosystem development and has established partnerships with several key institutions:

- EDU Chain Launch: In April 2024, Open Campus announced plans to launch EDU Chain, further strengthening its educational infrastructure.
- On-Chain Credential System: Open Campus announced that government agencies are actively exploring and developing an on-chain credential system to enhance the reliability of educational certificates.
- UNESCO-Supported Project: A UNESCO-supported project noted that Open Campus raised $5 million in 2023 to expand its blockchain-based education platform.
- Partnership with Binance Academy: In April 2024, Open Campus partnered with Binance Academy to launch free courses on decentralized education and the EDU ecosystem.
- EDU Bridge to Arbitrum: In July 2024, Open Campus announced the launch of the EDU-to-Arbitrum bridge, its third bridge partnership following those with BNB Chain and Ethereum.
- Strategic Partners: Open Campus is backed by Animoca Brands and has established partnerships with numerous prominent entities in the Web3 and education sectors—including TinyTap, Binance, ANPA, NewCampus, GEMS Education, The Sandbox, and Hooked—to jointly advance the development of decentralized education.
EDU Token Use Cases and Governance
The EDU token plays multiple roles within the Open Campus ecosystem:

- Payment: Learners can use EDU tokens to pay for course fees, access educational content, and potentially earn rewards for completing courses or achieving learning milestones.
- Governance: EDU token holders can participate in the protocol’s governance through the Open Campus DAO, voting on important matters such as protocol upgrades, fund allocation, parameter settings, and dispute resolution.
- Incentives: Educators and content creators can monetize their content through Publisher NFTs and earn EDU token rewards. Co-publishers can also receive a share of EDU revenue by promoting content.
- Donations: Donors can use EDU tokens via smart contracts to directly and transparently support educational initiatives, such as providing scholarships or grants.
