BNB's Initial Issuance and Target Supply
BNB (BNB) is the native token issued by Binance (Binance), the world’s leading cryptocurrency exchange, and serves as the core fuel for the BNB Chain ecosystem.BNB was initially set with a total supply cap of 200 million tokens. However, to achieve the deflationary goals outlined in its tokenomics model, BNB aims to eventually reduce the total supply to 100 million tokens through an ongoing burning mechanism.

BNB’s Current Supply and Burn Mechanism
As of this writing, both the maximum supply and circulating supply of BNB stand at approximately 133 million; these figures fluctuate dynamically due to ongoing burn activities. BNB’s deflationary nature is primarily driven by its multi-tiered burn mechanisms:

- Quarterly Auto-Burn: This is BNB’s primary burn mechanism. Each quarter, BNB automatically calculates and burns a certain amount of BNB based on its average price and the total number of blocks generated on the BNB Chain. This mechanism replaced the earlier manual burn process, enhancing the transparency and predictability of the burn process. For example, as of July 15, 2026, BNB had completed its 36th quarterly burn.
- BEP-95 Real-Time Burn: On the BNB Smart Chain, a portion of the gas fees from every transaction is burned in real time. This mechanism ensures that the BNB supply continues to decrease as network activity increases, further enhancing its deflationary nature.
- Pioneer Burn Program: This program is designed to help users recover BNB permanently lost due to operational errors, and these tokens are counted toward the total burn volume, making it an integral part of the burn mechanism.
Since the BNB Chain Fusion upgrade, quarterly burns have been executed directly on the BNB Smart Chain, with the burned tokens sent to the network’s “black hole address,” permanently removing them from circulation.
BNB Use Cases and Token Economics

BNB plays multiple roles within the Binance ecosystem and on the BNB Chain:
- Transaction Fee Discounts: Users can enjoy discounts when paying transaction fees on the Binance exchange.
- BNB Chain Gas Fees: As the native token of the BNB Smart Chain, it is used to pay transaction gas fees and smart contract deployment fees.
- Staking and Governance: Users can stake BNB on the BNB Chain to contribute to network security and earn rewards; in the future, they may also participate in governance.
- Launchpad Participation: Holding BNB is a prerequisite for participating in token sales for new projects on the Binance Launchpad.

BNB’s burn mechanism is central to its tokenomics, designed to increase scarcity by reducing the total supply, thereby potentially enhancing its long-term value. This design makes it a digital asset with deflationary properties, which is crucial to the development of the BNB Chain ecosystem.
