About RPL
RPL is the native token of Rocket Pool, a decentralized Ethereum staking protocol. This platform enables users to participate in Ethereum's proof-of-stake network by staking ETH, offering a lower barrier to entry compared to running a solo validator. It also allows individuals to operate nodes and contribute to the network's security and decentralization.
At its core, Rocket Pool facilitates liquid staking. Users who stake their ETH through the protocol receive rETH, a liquid staking token. rETH represents their staked ETH plus accumulated rewards and can be freely traded or used in other DeFi applications, providing liquidity while their original ETH remains locked in the Beacon Chain. Node operators, on the other hand, are required to stake RPL as collateral, aligning their incentives with the protocol's health and security.
RPL serves multiple crucial functions within the Rocket Pool ecosystem. Primarily, it acts as collateral for node operators, ensuring their commitment to honest network participation. Additionally, RPL is integral to the protocol's decentralized governance, allowing token holders to vote on key proposals and future developments. This dual utility of collateral and governance makes RPL a foundational element of Rocket Pool's operational framework.
As a prominent project in the decentralized liquid staking sector, Rocket Pool aims to enhance Ethereum's decentralization by distributing staking power across a wider network of node operators. Its design offers both accessibility for individual stakers and opportunities for node operators, contributing to a more robust and resilient Ethereum ecosystem.
