Svmuu News: Zcash has launched a new full node called Zakura, maintained by a team independent of the Zcash Foundation. It is released as a fast-sync branch—a trimmed-down version of Zebra—and is compatible with older versions of the zcashd client. That client will reach the end of its lifecycle on July 18.
Zakura is part of Zcash’s scalability efforts. In conjunction with Project Tachyon and research on private information retrieval, it aims to boost network throughput to Visa and Mastercard levels by reducing validation data and eliminating wallet performance bottlenecks.
Zakura also supports the Ironwood (NU6.3) upgrade, which will be activated on July 28. This upgrade introduces the “turnstile” mechanism to limit withdrawals from the Orchard shielded pool and control the generation of counterfeit ZEC that could result from a long-standing soundness bug.
