Svmuu News: Brian Armstrong, CEO of Coinbase, has responded to recent controversies surrounding the change to his X profile picture and the Base community’s “unsupported” status. He expressed gratitude for the community’s feedback and acknowledged that he had not been clear enough in communicating his expectations.Users should not view the content on his personal X account as investment advice or signals regarding specific tokens. He explained that his posts are simply meant to share internet content he finds interesting or entertaining, and that he may not even be aware of whether such content is related to a particular token or project. He emphasized that neither his tweets nor his profile picture changes represent an endorsement or commitment to any project.
Regarding support for the Base ecosystem, Brian Armstrong stated that Base’s goal is to build financial services infrastructure that supports a variety of use cases, including stock tokenization, lending protocols, stablecoin payments, and meme coin trading. Coinbase allows users to trade assets freely but will not use its official influence to “pump” or promote specific tokens. Coinbase The and the Base team are indeed subject to compliance and regulatory restrictions that prevent them from listing certain tokens on centralized exchanges, nor will they promote specific projects at the community’s request.
Base currently supports ecosystem development primarily through offline “Base Batches” events, developer grant programs, and investments via Coinbase Ventures and the Base Ecosystem Fund. Additionally, Coinbase may integrate certain DeFi protocols from the Base ecosystem into its own products based on long-term user value assessments, to help projects expand their reach.
Brian Armstrong stated that Coinbase will continue to prioritize projects capable of creating long-term user value and hopes this clarification will help the community establish clearer expectations. He also added that he may continue to post meme content he finds interesting, but such content does not constitute investment advice.
