Svmuu News: AI startup Moonshot AI recently released its open-source model, Kimi K3, claiming it can compete with leading systems from OpenAI and Anthropic at a lower cost. The company also stated that the model can convert computing power into AI capabilities more efficiently.
Following the launch of Kimi K3, Moonshot AI suspended new subscriptions due to overwhelming demand that exceeded its computational capacity. The model had previously sparked widespread discussion on the Chinese internet.
On Weibo, topics related to Kimi K3 briefly rose to the top of the trending list, with discussions centered on whether open-source models can challenge the proprietary systems of U.S. companies, as well as changes in the Chinese AI industry’s demand for computing power. Other topics focused on comparisons between Kimi K3 and Anthropic’s Claude.
Elon Musk also stated that preliminary training for xAI’s next-generation Grok 4.6 model has entered its final stages, and the 2-trillion-parameter version may surpass Kimi. Moonshot AI’s official Weibo account subsequently responded: “Welcome to the 2 Trillion+ Club.”
