The Founding Team of MultiversX (EGLD)
MultiversX, formerly known as Elrond Network, is a high-performance blockchain platform whose core team consists of experienced blockchain experts and entrepreneurs. The project’s co-founder and CEO is Beniamin Mincu.He has been deeply involved in the blockchain space since 2014, served as a key member of the NEM.io core team, and, through MetaChain Capital—which he founded—has invested in several well-known blockchain projects, including Binance, BAT, and Tezos.
In addition, Lucian Todea is also recognized as one of the co-founders of Elrond Network.MultiversX boasts a strong team, bringing together engineers and researchers with extensive technical backgrounds at global tech giants such as Microsoft, Google, Intel, and NTT DATA—including two PhDs in computer science and artificial intelligence—who are collectively dedicated to advancing the development and application of blockchain technology.
EGLD Token Economics and Supply
EGLD is the native token of the MultiversX network. Its token economic model has been carefully designed to support network operations and incentivize participants.The EGLD token was initially upgraded from the legacy ERD token at an exchange ratio of 1,000:1. This means that every 1,000 ERD tokens can be exchanged for 1 EGLD token. Given that the initial total supply of ERD was 20 billion tokens, the initial total supply of EGLD was therefore set at 20 million tokens.
The MultiversX network employs a unique token economic model with a dynamically adjusted maximum supply and plans to reduce inflation annually through a deflationary mechanism. According to the project’s design, EGLD tokens will be gradually released over the next decade until they reach their final maximum supply, which is targeted at approximately 31.42 million.As of this writing (July 2026), EGLD’s circulating supply and total supply range roughly between 30.36 million and 30.37 million tokens.
The EGLD token plays multiple key roles within the MultiversX ecosystem, including:
- Network Transaction Fees: Used to pay for transactions and smart contract execution on the MultiversX network.
- Staking: Holders can stake EGLD with validators to help secure the network and earn staking rewards.
- Governance: EGLD holders have the right to participate in the network’s governance decisions and vote on proposals such as protocol upgrades and parameter adjustments.
- Validator Rewards: Rewards for running nodes as validators, incentivizing them to maintain the network’s smooth operation and security.
