What is SOMM?
SOMM is the native token of the Sommelier Protocol. Sommelier is a non-custodial, cross-chain DeFi investment strategy platform whose core objective is to enable users to create and execute actively managed DeFi investment strategies—known as “Cellars”—through smart contracts.Strategy Providers (SPs) are responsible for developing trading strategies and submitting their recommended actions to Sommelier validators for execution, with the aim of generating returns for users.

Sommelier’s unique architecture includes:
- The Sommelier Cosmos SDK blockchain: Serves as the platform’s base layer.
- Off-chain execution environment: Maintains strategy privacy and leverages various off-chain data modeling techniques.
- High-Performance ETH Bridge: Used to transmit strategy instructions to Cellars for asset reallocation. The platform plans to expand in the future to support other blockchains such as Polygon and Avalanche.
The protocol reduces gas fees by aggregating and batch-processing transactions, offering an attractive alternative to the high transaction costs on Ethereum. In terms of security, Sommelier employs a decentralized governance mechanism operated by validators to ensure the safety of user funds.Users’ assets are not transferred via a bridge but are instead deployed directly into non-custodial Cellars; users can withdraw their assets at any time, and strategy providers cannot take ownership of these assets.
