Svmuu News: According to the latest industry research, the average selling price (ASP) of the global DRAM market in the third quarter is expected to rise by 21% quarter-over-quarter. This forecast exceeds TrendForce’s previous projections, which anticipated a 13% to 18% increase for traditional DRAM prices and an 8% to 13% increase for the overall market, including HBM.
Analysts believe that the rise in DRAM prices in the third quarter is primarily driven by several factors, including a 20% to 30% quarter-over-quarter increase in server DRAM prices and strong demand for high-speed LPDDR5; the continued heating up of the DDR5 and DDR4 spot markets, with prices rising further in July compared to the previous month;an increase in HBM4 orders; the proportion of orders covered by long-term agreements (LTAs) remaining below 50%, with more spot and non-LTA orders driving price increases; and emergency purchases by some OEMs, which pushed DRAM and NAND prices up by more than 20%.
The market had previously been concerned that memory chip manufacturers’ third-quarter earnings might fall short of expectations, but the latest contract price survey results show that the rise in DRAM prices has outperformed market consensus. Meanwhile, positive guidance recently released by TSMC, and ASML has further reinforced market expectations of an upward trend in the memory industry’s business cycle. (Barron’s)
