Svmuu News: The cryptocurrency trading platform Coinbase disclosed that a routine infrastructure update last week inadvertently modified the Istio ingress gateway component due to an undetected Kubernetes resource name conflict, resulting in a service outage lasting approximately 50 minutes. Coinbase stated that customer funds were not at risk.
The outage occurred from approximately 12:37 p.m. to 1:25 p.m. Eastern Time and affected retail investors, institutional clients, and the developer platform. Some users were unable to complete deposits, withdrawals, or off-platform transactions; purchases made with the CoinbaseCard debit card were declined, while credit card purchases were unaffected.
The outage also affected on-chain swaps conducted via the Coinbase DEX on Base and Solana, and Coinbase Exchange and Prime customers experienced delays or failures in transfers and settlements. Coinbase stated that it will enhance name conflict checks, separate recovery tools from managed infrastructure, and test emergency access procedures more frequently.
