Iranian Proxies Threaten the Security of "Air Force One"; Donald Trump's Presidential Plane Is Temporarily Replaced During the NATO Summit
Svmuu News: According to The New York Times, multiple sources familiar with the matter revealed that while U.S. President Donald Trump was attending the NATO summit this month, the Secret Service advised him to change planes upon leaving Turkey after U.S. officials discovered that Iranian proxies might be planning an attack against Donald Trump and his presidential aircraft. The report states that Donald Trump arrived in Ankara, Turkey, aboard a new Boeing 747-8 aircraft donated by Qatar; however, the aircraft was not yet equipped with advanced defense systems comparable to those of the traditional “Air Force One.”After the U.S. government identified the threat, the U.S. Secret Service advised Donald Trump to board an older version of Air Force One for his departure. Sources familiar with the matter said the threat was not specifically aimed at the Qatar-donated aircraft, but rather at Donald Trump himself and any aircraft he might be traveling on. Previously, Donald Trump had stated that the aircraft change was intended to allow U.S. military personnel stationed in the United Kingdom to tour the new aircraft, and he denied that it was related to security concerns. However, The New York Times reported that the decision to switch aircraft was, in fact, related to a security assessment. The report noted that the Qatar-donated Boeing 747-8 is still scheduled to undergo upgrades to enhance the security capabilities required for a presidential aircraft. The White House stated that the aircraft is “fully capable of ensuring the president’s safety during travel” and will undergo approximately one month of additional upgrades this fall. This incident occurred amid the ongoing escalation of tensions between the U.S. and Iran. The report noted that U.S. officials had previously received intelligence suggesting that Iran might be planning an operation targeting Donald Trump, and that the U.S. remains on high alert regarding threats to the president’s security.
