As the US midterm elections approach, the controversy surrounding AI data centers is becoming a bipartisan concern. Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro signed an executive order on Tuesday, setting stringent standards for data center development in the state. Developers are required to bear all costs for new power infrastructure, commit to transparent communication with local stakeholders, employ local workers, sign community benefit agreements, and adhere to strict water and environmental standards. Previously, AI data centers had already become a central issue in the Florida Republican primary. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) warned that data centers have become a "potential issue" for the midterm elections, noting that Democratic candidate Sherrod Brown has made opposition to data centers a core part of his campaign in the Ohio Senate race. President Donald Trump stated that communities should welcome data centers because they bring significant jobs and tax revenue. A report released by the Pew Research Center on Tuesday showed that over half of Americans are concerned about the increasing use of AI, up from 37% in 2021.
