ZTE, the Chinese telecommunications equipment giant, disclosed its third-quarter report, achieving a net profit attributable to shareholders of listed companies of 1.307 billion yuan in Q3 2026, a year-on-year increase of 394.46%. During the same period, operating revenue reached 38.813 billion yuan, up 33.99% year-on-year. However, the cumulative net profit for the first three quarters was 4.060 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 23.71%. Excluding non-recurring gains and losses, the non-IFRS net profit was 2.814 billion yuan, down 27.46% year-on-year. The company stated that the Q3 performance rebound was partly due to 715 million yuan in non-recurring gains and losses, primarily from changes in fair value and disposal gains of financial assets. Additionally, as of the end of September, the company's inventory scale reached 73.635 billion yuan, an increase of 56.61% from the end of 2025. The net cash flow from operating activities for the first three quarters was 715 million yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 59.78%, indicating cash flow pressure.

Bank of America research reports that Red Sea shipping volumes have recovered to 65% of normal levels, up from 50% in September. However, tanker freight rates remain as high as $650,000 per day, and dry bulk freight rates have increased by 31% year-over-year. The bank noted that despite the recovery in shipping, high freight costs continue to pose a threat to global inflation.

Electrum Wallet has patched a high-severity vulnerability that allowed hackers to redirect Bitcoin payments when users attempted to increase transaction fees, enabling funds to be stolen without private keys.

The vulnerability affected Electrum versions prior to 4.8.3, exploiting the wallet's reliance on external servers to track unconfirmed transactions. Malicious servers could manipulate payment information displayed to users before they authorized additional fees. Developers disclosed the vulnerability on October 24 and confirmed that malicious servers had exploited the weakness, resulting in at least one user losing Bitcoin. Electrum has released version 4.8.3 to fix this issue.

SK Hynix plans to announce an additional shareholder return program worth KRW 50 trillion to KRW 60 trillion (approximately USD 38 billion to USD 45 billion) on October 28, the same day as its Q3 earnings release, according to a report by the Seoul Economic Daily on the 26th. Including the recently completed KRW 40 trillion in treasury stock buybacks and cancellations, the company's total shareholder returns this year will reach KRW 90 trillion to KRW 100 trillion, setting a new historical record and representing about seven times last year's amount. The current plan primarily takes the form of special dividends, and it is also understood that the company is considering additional share buybacks and cancellations to meet the demands of institutional and foreign investors. This move aims to respond to market expectations for the rapid growth of its AI memory business and drive stock price recovery.

A proposal in California to levy a 5% wealth tax on billionaires is facing strong opposition, with tech billionaires raising over $300 million to fight the tax. The proposal, which will be voted on November 3, would impose a one-time tax on California billionaires if passed.

California Governor Gavin Newsom also opposes the tax, calling it "poorly written" and arguing that it would harm the state's economy if billionaires (with an estimated combined wealth of $2.3 trillion) were to move out, as Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg reportedly plans to do.

The opposition's fundraising significantly outpaces that of supporters, who have raised only $32 million, making it one of the most expensive ballot measures in history.

Arm recently introduced a methodology for evaluating CPU performance for agents, aiming to help enterprises assess the performance of different CPUs in agent tasks through tests that more closely reflect real-world application scenarios.

As agent application scenarios become increasingly segmented, agents not only need to call large models for inference but also access databases, execute code, and call tools. These processes can consume significant CPU resources, leading to GPU idleness. Ravi Malhotra, Director of Cloud AI Solutions Architecture at Arm, pointed out that a CPU's ability to quickly complete its own work is crucial for overall efficiency. The methodology proposed by Arm combines component-level testing with end-to-end agent benchmarking, focusing on the number of concurrent agents, task execution efficiency, and per-rack performance. It also advises enterprises to select evaluation metrics based on their specific applications.

ING warns the euro could fall further due to French debt concerns, stating that despite Moody's maintaining France's Aa3 credit rating, the euro remains vulnerable. Given the limited expected progress on France's budget and high energy prices, pressure on the euro could persist. ING sees limited upside for the euro and warns that EUR/USD could break below the key support level of 1.1180. EUR/USD is currently trading at 1.1206.

The ministry called on the international community to provide new tents.

Al Jazeera reports that after three years of war, displacement, and restrictions, Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are watching Israel's upcoming general election with a mix of fear and uncertainty. Despite a "ceasefire" in the region since October 2025, Gazans still face near-daily Israeli airstrikes, dire living conditions, and a harsh blockade leading to shortages of basic necessities. Several interviewees expressed hope for a change in leadership but generally do not expect a significant shift in Israeli policy, believing that Israel's policies will remain unchanged regardless of who comes to power. Currently, approximately 65% of Gaza's territory is under Israeli control, and over 80% of its buildings are damaged, with about two-thirds completely destroyed.

The European Central Bank's (ECB) Survey on the Access to Finance of Enterprises (SAFE) report indicates that Euro area businesses generally faced tighter lending conditions in Q3 2026. The report notes that a net 46% of enterprises reported a further increase in bank loan interest rates, alongside rising costs for other financing and collateral requirements. Additionally, the availability of bank loans decreased by a net 5%, leading to a widening financing gap. Businesses anticipate a continued decline in the availability of external financing over the next three months, with the overall economic outlook being the primary limiting factor.

Oil prices retreated from near six-month highs following market expectations of a potential de-escalation in hostilities between the United States and Iran. As of 07:44 AM ET, U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures fell $1.76, or 1.7%, to $101.51 per barrel; Brent crude futures dropped $1.49, or 1.28%, to $115.23.

Guillaume Long, Senior Policy Analyst at the Center for Economic and Policy Research, wrote in Al Jazeera that Lula's victory in the second round of Brazil's presidential election with 51.8% of the vote, defeating Flávio Bolsonaro (who received 48.2%), could mark a turning point for the far-right wave in Latin America and deal a blow to US President Donald Trump's interventionist agenda in the region. The commentary noted that the Brazilian economy grew by a cumulative 9.2% between 2023 and 2025, with unemployment falling to a historic low of 5.4% in 2026.

Goldman Sachs maintained a Buy rating on CATL, the world's largest power battery manufacturer, projecting its energy storage business unit's gross profit to increase by approximately 1.6 times between 2026 and 2030. Goldman Sachs set a target price of RMB 507 for its A-shares and HKD 777 for its H-shares, both implying over 100% upside from current prices. Goldman Sachs believes the market underestimates the value of CATL's structural transformation from a single cell supplier to a comprehensive AC-side energy storage solution provider. It also expects CATL to regain its dominant position in the Chinese energy storage market, with its market share potentially recovering from 20% in 2025 to 40% in 2030.
