CKB, short for Common Knowledge Base, is the official native token of the Nervos Network. The Nervos Network is a layered blockchain architecture whose core concept is to provide a secure, decentralized base layer (Layer 1)—namely, CKB—while supporting scalability solutions on the upper layer (Layer 2).The CKB token plays multiple roles within the network, including paying transaction fees, serving as proof of ownership for on-chain storage space, and incentivizing miners and network participants. Holding 1 CKB represents ownership of 1 byte of storage space on the Nervos blockchain.

Main Ways to Obtain CKB
There are several main ways to obtain CKB:
- Purchasing through cryptocurrency exchanges: This is the most common and direct method.
- Participate in CKB mining: Nervos CKB uses a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism.
- Participating in the Nervos DAO or staking: Earn rewards by locking up CKB.
Buying CKB on Cryptocurrency Exchanges
Purchasing CKB on a centralized cryptocurrency exchange is the preferred method for most users. Many major exchanges support CKB trading.

Choosing the Right Exchange
Currently, mainstream centralized exchanges that support CKB trading include:Binance (Binance), KuCoin, Gate.io, MEXC, Huobi (HTX), Crypto.com Exchange, Bitrue, CoinEx, and others. When choosing an exchange, you may want to consider the following factors:
- Compliance and Security: Choose a platform that is regulated and has a strong track record of security.
- Trading Pairs: Verify that the exchange offers the trading pairs you wish to use, such as CKB/USDT, CKB/BTC, etc.
- Liquidity: High liquidity makes it easier to buy and sell at your desired price.
- Fees: Understand trading fees, deposit and withdrawal fees, and other charges.
- User Experience: Is the interface user-friendly, and is it easy to navigate?
- Customer Service: Can you get timely assistance when you encounter issues?
Steps to Buy CKB
- Register and Complete Identity Verification (KYC): Most centralized exchanges require users to register an account and complete identity verification (Know Your Customer, KYC) to comply with anti-money laundering (AML) regulations. This typically involves providing personal information and identification documents.
- Deposit Funds:
- Fiat Deposits: You can deposit fiat currencies (such as USD, EUR, or CNY, depending on the exchange and your region) via bank transfer, credit/debit cards (e.g., Visa, Mastercard), Google Pay, or Apple Pay.
- Cryptocurrency Deposits: If you already hold other cryptocurrencies (such as USDT, BTC, or ETH), you can deposit them directly into the exchange and use them to purchase CKB.
- Search for CKB trading pairs: Enter “CKB” in the exchange’s trading interface or search bar to find the CKB trading pair you wish to trade (e.g., CKB/USDT).
- Place a Buy Order:
- Market Order: Buy CKB immediately at the current best available market price.
- Limit Order: You can set your desired purchase price. The order will be automatically executed when the market price of CKB reaches or falls below the price you set.
- Confirm the purchase: Enter the amount of CKB you wish to buy or the amount you want to spend, then confirm the order.
- Withdraw CKB (Optional): Once the purchase is complete, the CKB will be stored in your exchange account. For asset security, it is recommended to withdraw large amounts of CKB to a non-custodial wallet under your control (such as a hardware wallet or software wallet).
You can check CKB’s real-time market data and related news on financial information sites like Svmuu to inform your trading decisions.
Participating in CKB Mining
Nervos CKB uses a Proof-of-Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, which means you can earn CKB through mining. CKB uses a hash algorithm called Eaglesong. However, please note:

- ASIC Mining Dominates: CKB mining has evolved to be primarily dominated by ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) miners. While GPU (graphics card) mining is technically feasible, it is extremely inefficient and yields minimal returns compared to ASIC miners, making it no longer suitable for ordinary users.
- Hardware Requirements: Participating in CKB mining requires specialized ASIC miners optimized for Eaglesong, such as the Antminer K7 and Goldshell CK Box series.
- Revenue Sources: Miners earn CKB rewards through “Base Issuance” and “Secondary Issuance.”
For most individual investors, purchasing CKB is more practical and economical than mining.
Participating in the Nervos DAO or Staking
The Nervos Network offers a unique mechanism—the Nervos DAO—that allows CKB holders to earn returns by locking up their tokens, thereby hedging against inflation. This is not “staking” in the traditional sense, but it functions similarly and can be understood as a form of inflation protection.
- Nervos DAO: You can use the Neuron Wallet or Portal Wallet to deposit CKB directly into the Nervos DAO. CKB locked in the DAO typically has a lock-up period of about 30 days, but it continues to accrue returns during that time.
- Liquid Staking: In response to the locking restrictions of the Nervos DAO, liquid staking protocols such as iCKB have emerged. iCKB allows users to stake CKB in the DAO and receive tradable iCKB tokens, thereby maintaining liquidity while earning returns.
- Exchange Staking/Investment Products: Some centralized exchanges (such as Bitrue, Binance, KuCoin, and XT.COM) also offer CKB demand deposit or fixed-term investment products, allowing users to earn interest by depositing CKB.
CKB Trading Basics
Once you have acquired CKB, you can trade it on an exchange to exchange it for other cryptocurrencies or fiat currencies.

- Trading Pairs: Common trading pairs include CKB/USDT, CKB/BTC, and others.
- Buy/Sell: You can choose to buy more CKB or sell CKB based on market conditions.
- Order Types: In addition to market orders and limit orders, exchanges typically offer advanced order types such as stop-loss orders to help you manage risk.
- Spot Trading: Most CKB trading is spot trading, which involves the immediate buying and selling of actual CKB tokens.
Important Notes
- Market Volatility: The cryptocurrency market is highly volatile, and the price of CKB may fluctuate dramatically within a short period. Be sure to understand and accept the potential risks.
- Wallet Security: Safeguard your private keys and mnemonic phrases. For large holdings, we strongly recommend using a hardware wallet for offline storage to protect against hacking attacks.
- Risk Management: Be sure to conduct thorough research (DYOR) before investing, and invest only within your risk tolerance. This article does not constitute investment advice.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay informed about the latest regulations regarding cryptocurrency trading in your country or region.
