Uniswap is a decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol running on the Ethereum blockchain, designed to facilitate direct cryptocurrency trading without the need for traditional intermediaries. It operates through automated market-making mechanisms and permissionless liquidity pools, and community governance is driven by its governance token, UNI.
Uniswap has conducted several airdrops, the most notable of which was the UNI token airdrop on September 1, 2020, which distributed UNI tokens to all addresses that had interacted with the Uniswap protocol prior to the snapshot date.
Eligibility for the UNI Airdrop

The snapshot for the UNI token airdrop was taken at 12:00 a.m. Coordinated Universal Time (UTC) on September 1, 2020. Any user who had used Uniswap prior to this date was eligible to receive the airdrop.
Specifically, addresses that meet any of the following criteria are eligible to receive the UNI airdrop:
- Addresses that have called the Uniswap v1 or v2 contracts: Any Ethereum address that has ever interacted with the Uniswap v1 or v2 contracts—including those that have only submitted failed transactions—is eligible to receive 400 UNI.
- Historical liquidity providers: Users who have provided liquidity to the Uniswap protocol will receive UNI rewards based on the duration and amount of liquidity they provided. The reward calculation takes into account liquidity on a per-second basis since the deployment of Uniswap v1.
- SOCKS Token Redeemers/Holders: Addresses that redeemed SOCKS tokens for physical socks prior to the snapshot date, or that held at least one SOCKS token, are also eligible to receive UNI.
It is worth noting that Uniswap officials have stated that the UNI token airdrop on September 1, 2020, is the only official airdrop associated with the Uniswap protocol. All official information regarding the airdrop will come from the official social media channels of Uniswap Labs or the Uniswap Foundation.
Steps to Claim the UNI Airdrop

If you meet the eligibility criteria listed above, you can claim your UNI tokens by following these steps:
- Visit the Uniswap official website: Go to the Uniswap official website or its application (e.g., app.uniswap.org).
- Connect your Ethereum wallet: Ensure your Ethereum wallet (such as MetaMask) is connected to the Uniswap app.
- Check the Eligibility Notification: If your wallet is eligible, you will see a pop-up window in the Uniswap web app displaying the message “UNI has arrived.”
- Claim your UNI tokens: Click “Claim your UNI tokens” and approve the transaction to complete the claim process.
- Set an Appropriate Gas Fee: Since gas fees on the Ethereum network can be high, it is recommended that you set an appropriate gas limit to ensure the transaction is completed successfully. You can check real-time gas fee information on platforms such as Svmuu.
Once claimed successfully, UNI tokens can be traded on multiple platforms, including Binance, KuCoin, HTX, and OkEx. Coinbase has also listed UNI.
Other Uniswap-Related Airdrops

In addition to the 2020 UNI token airdrop, the Uniswap ecosystem has conducted other airdrops, such as the USDC airdrop for Genie users. At the time of the snapshot on April 15, 2022, Genie users who had completed multiple transactions were eligible to claim 300 USDC, while users holding the Genie:Genesis NFT were eligible to claim 1,000 USDC.
Please note that this article focuses primarily on the 2020 UNI governance token airdrop. For any new airdrop campaigns, be sure to obtain information through official Uniswap channels and remain vigilant against scams.
