GRT, short for Graph Token, is the cryptocurrency of The Graph protocol. The Graph is an open-source, decentralized protocol designed to provide data indexing and query services for blockchain networks such as Ethereum and IPFS. It is hailed as the “Google of blockchain” and provides data support for decentralized applications (dApps) and the Web3 ecosystem.

Who is the founder of GRT?

The Graph protocol was co-founded by Yaniv Tal, Brandon Ramirez, and Jannis Pohlmann in 2018.
- Yaniv Tal: Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), with extensive experience in product development and engineering.
- Brandon Ramirez: Co-founder and Head of R&D, responsible for the protocol’s system-level architecture and economic model design.
- Jannis Pohlmann: Co-founder and former Head of Technology, who played a key role in the early architecture and development of The Graph protocol.
Prior to founding The Graph, these three founders had collaborated to launch several startups focused on development tools and had gained experience in the field of data-intensive applications. Their vision is to create a decentralized protocol for indexing and querying blockchain data to meet the growing demands of the Web3 ecosystem.

The Graph protocol operates on a decentralized network architecture that includes various participant roles—such as Indexers, Curators, and Delegators—who collectively maintain the network’s operation and data integrity. The GRT token plays a key role in this ecosystem by covering service fees, incentivizing network participants, and enabling governance.
