ACA (Acala Token) is the native cryptocurrency of the Acala Network, a decentralized finance (DeFi) platform built on the Polkadot blockchain.Acala aims to become the liquidity hub and DeFi hub of the Polkadot ecosystem, offering a range of financial products and services, including a decentralized exchange (DEX), a multi-collateral stablecoin (aUSD), and liquid staking.
What is ACA?
ACA is Acala Network’s utility and governance token. Its primary functions and uses include:
- Paying network fees: ACA tokens are used to pay transaction fees on the Acala Network, smart contract execution fees, stability fees for the aUSD stablecoin, and penalties during liquidation. These fees can also be paid in aUSD; the system automatically converts them to ACA in the background and burns them, making the token deflationary.
- Network Governance: ACA token holders have voting rights and can participate in the decentralized governance of the Acala Network, including proposing and voting on network upgrades, adjustments to risk parameters, the election of council members, and other management decisions.
- Network Security and Staking: Users can stake ACA tokens to participate in the network’s consensus mechanism, becoming validators or delegates, thereby helping to secure the network and earning ACA rewards.
- Stablecoin Collateral: ACA tokens can be used as collateral to mint Acala’s decentralized stablecoin, aUSD.
- Emergency Reserve: In emergency situations, such as a sudden collapse in the price of collateralized assets, ACA tokens can serve as an emergency reserve, automatically being diluted and sold on the market to facilitate systemic capital restructuring.
The Acala Network is compatible with the Ethereum (EVM), meaning developers can easily migrate DApps built on Ethereum to the Acala Network and leverage Polkadot’s advantages, such as cross-chain interoperability, scalability, and low gas fees.
ACA Token Economics
The total supply of ACA tokens is fixed at 1,600,000,000. At the launch of the genesis block, 1,000,000,000 ACA tokens were minted. The remaining token issuance schedule will be arranged in accordance with the Acala 2.0 upgrade. As of June 29, 2026, the circulating supply of ACA is approximately 1,166,666,660 tokens. It is worth noting that token allocations to some early investors and the team are subject to lock-up periods and will be released gradually.
