Single-Token Staking refers to the practice of investors locking a single type of cryptocurrency into a blockchain network to support its operation and maintenance. This model is typically applied to blockchain networks that use the Proof-of-Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism.
How It Works

- Users stake a single type of token they hold on a DeFi platform or blockchain network.
- The staked tokens contribute to the network’s security, stability, and transaction validation.
- In return, stakers receive rewards issued by the network, typically in the form of the network’s native token.
- Staking methods may involve a fixed lock-up period or allow for withdrawal at any time; different mechanisms affect the potential rate of return.

Single-token staking is generally considered a relatively stable and easy-to-manage source of passive income. The annualized staking yield for major cryptocurrencies typically ranges from 3% to 8%, depending on the network and platform.
However, it is not without risks:
- Smart contract security risks: Vulnerabilities in the smart contracts of staking platforms or protocols could lead to the loss of funds.
- Token price volatility risk: Although staking itself generates returns, a significant drop in the market price of the staked tokens could result in a loss of principal value.
- Liquidity risk: Some staking arrangements may have a lock-up period during which users cannot freely transfer or trade their tokens.
- Validator risk: In delegated staking models, returns and the security of principal may depend in part on the performance of the selected validator; misconduct may result in slashing losses.

Dual-Token Liquidity Mining: Providing Market Liquidity
Dual-Token Liquidity Mining,often referred to as yield farming, refers to investors providing two different cryptocurrencies (forming a trading pair) to a decentralized exchange (DEX) liquidity pool to increase market liquidity and earn a share of trading fees and additional platform tokens as rewards.
How It Works
- Users must provide two cryptocurrencies of equal value (e.g., ETH/USDT) to inject into a DEX liquidity pool.
- Users receive LP (Liquidity Provider) tokens, which represent their share in the liquidity pool.
- When other users trade within that liquidity pool, LP holders receive a share of the trading fees proportional to their stake.
- Many DEXs also reward LPs with their platform tokens to incentivize liquidity provision.
- Liquidity pools typically operate through an Automated Market Maker (AMM) mechanism, such as the constant product formula X*Y=K, to balance the prices and quantities of the two assets.

Dual-asset liquidity mining typically offers higher potential yields, with returns coming from trading fees and platform token rewards.
The main risks include:
- Impermanent Loss: This is the most significant and unique risk associated with dual-token liquidity mining.When the price ratio between the two tokens in a liquidity pool changes, the value of an LP’s assets upon withdrawal may be lower than if they had simply held the two tokens separately. Although referred to as “impermanent,” this loss may become permanent if prices fail to revert to their initial ratio.
- Smart Contract Risks: Similar to single-token staking, vulnerabilities in a DEX platform’s smart contracts may result in the loss of funds.
- Project Risk: Participating in liquidity pools for immature or fraudulent projects (commonly referred to as “air coins”) may result in significant losses of principal.
- Slippage Risk: Executing large transactions in pools with low liquidity may result in significant slippage losses.
