LEND Token: The Origins of ETHLend and Its Initial Token Offering

The LEND token is the native token of the decentralized lending protocol ETHLend. The ETHLend project was founded by Stani Kulechov in 2017 with the aim of providing decentralized lending services using blockchain technology. The project initially adopted a peer-to-peer (P2P) lending model, allowing users to lend and borrow crypto assets directly from one another.

LEND Token Issuance Price and Timeline

The LEND token’s Initial Coin Offering (ICO) primarily took place between November 24 and November 29, 2017. According to public records, the ICO price of the LEND token was $0.02.Through this ICO, the ETHLend project successfully raised approximately $16.2 million, laying the foundation for its subsequent development. The total supply of LEND tokens is approximately 1.3 billion.

Rebranding and the Birth of AAVE

The ETHLend project underwent a significant rebranding during its development.Between 2018 and 2020, ETHLend was officially renamed Aave. This transition was not merely a name change; it also marked the project’s evolution from its initial peer-to-peer (P2P) lending model to a liquidity pool-based lending model, which significantly enhanced the protocol’s efficiency and liquidity.

As part of the rebranding, a token migration for the LEND token took place in October 2020. The original LEND tokens were converted to the new AAVE tokens at a ratio of 100:1.This meant that every 100 LEND tokens could be exchanged for 1 AAVE token. Following the migration, the total supply of the new AAVE tokens stood at approximately 16 million, making it the core governance and value-accumulating token of the Aave protocol.

The Development and Impact of the Aave Protocol

Following its rebranding and token migration, the Aave protocol rapidly grew into one of the most important lending protocols in the decentralized finance (DeFi) space. It allows users to deposit crypto assets to earn interest or collateralize assets to borrow other cryptocurrencies.Aave’s innovation lies in features such as Flash Loans, which have greatly expanded the application scenarios of DeFi. As of this writing, the Aave protocol continues to operate across multiple blockchain networks and undergoes continuous iteration and upgrades, maintaining its leading position in the DeFi ecosystem.
