What is CTR Coin?
CTR primarily refers to the token issued by the Citrea project.Citrea is a key infrastructure project within the Bitcoin ecosystem, positioned as the first zero-knowledge rollup (ZK Rollup) secured by the Bitcoin network. The project aims to expand the functionality of Bitcoin by introducing programmable smart contracts and a composable application layer without compromising the inherent security of the Bitcoin network.

Citrea Project Technical Features and Vision
- Zero-Knowledge Technology: Citrea leverages advanced zero-knowledge technology to support a diverse Bitcoin economy secured by the Bitcoin network.
- zkEVM Architecture: The network is built around a Type 2 zkEVM, meaning it is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) at the virtual machine level and can support existing EVM smart contracts and development tools.
- BitVM Verification: Citrea uses BitVM technology to verify zero-knowledge proofs on-chain at Bitcoin, ensuring that the security of its Rollup is ultimately guaranteed by the Bitcoin mainnet.
- Ecosystem Components: The project includes Clementine, the first trust-minimized Bitcoin bridge solution; and ctUSD, a native Bitcoin stablecoin issued by MoonPay, designed to enrich financial services within the Citrea ecosystem.
- Team Background: The Citrea project was launched by Chainway Labs in 2024 and has received investment from prominent institutions such as Founders Fund, Galaxy, and Delphi Digital.
- Token Use Cases: CTR is the coordination token of the Citrea network. Holders can stake CTR to earn xCTR (a voting escrow token), which can be used to participate in ecosystem governance, earn liquidity incentives, and serve as credentials for committee members and infrastructure providers.
Historical Context Distinction
It is important to note that in the early days (around October 2017), there was a token called Centra Token (CTR) (Ethereum) designed to build a digital currency payment system. However, this project is unrelated to the currently active Citrea project and its CTR token.
