What is IOST Coin?
IOST (Internet of Services Token) is a cryptocurrency and the native token of its namesake high-performance blockchain infrastructure. The project aims to build a scalable, secure, and developer-friendly blockchain ecosystem, focusing on the tokenization of real-world assets (RWA) and Web3 payment solutions to bridge traditional finance with decentralized systems.
Core Technology and Performance

The IOST blockchain employs its original "Proof-of-Believability" (PoB) consensus mechanism. The PoB mechanism aims to balance high transaction throughput with decentralization, providing a faster and more economical development and operating environment than Ethereum. IOST supports smart contracts written in JavaScript, lowering the barrier for Web2 developers to enter the Web3 space. Additionally, it combines Efficient Distributed Sharding Technology and Hyper Universe Distributed System (HUDS) to achieve high performance of thousands to hundreds of thousands of transactions per second (TPS) while maintaining low transaction costs.
Development History and Recent Updates
The IOST project was conceived in 2017 and officially launched in January 2018. In January of the same year, it successfully raised approximately $35 million through a private placement. In February 2019, the IOST mainnet officially went live, introducing the PoB consensus model. In terms of recent developments, the IOST community passed a proposal in January 2025 to launch a BSC L2 solution on BNBChain and issue new BEP-20 tokens. Subsequently, IOST completed a full-chain asset snapshot in March 2025 and initiated the airdrop claim for L1 IOST chain in April 2025.
Uses of IOST Token
The IOST token plays multiple roles within the network:

- Transaction Fees: Used to pay for transaction fees on the IOST blockchain.
- dApp Development and Operation: Supports the development and deployment of decentralized applications (dApps).
- Staking: Users can participate in network governance and earn rewards by staking IOST tokens.
- Resource Guarantee: Used to guarantee network resources such as storage space.
- Network Rewards: Rewards nodes and users who contribute to the network.
- Token Exchange: Can be used to exchange for other tokens within the IOST network.
IOST Tokenomics and Market Performance
IOST had an initial total supply of 21 billion tokens. The project design includes an annual inflation rate of approximately 3%, with a total supply cap of 90 billion tokens. As of March 2025, approximately 44 billion IOST have been minted, with about 22 billion in circulation. In the private placement in December 2017, the IOST token price was approximately $0.004167. As of July 2026, IOST's market capitalization is approximately $22.78 million, ranking around 665th in the cryptocurrency market. Over the past 7 days, its price fluctuation has been approximately -2.55%, showing a significant retracement from its all-time high. Investors can view IOST's real-time price and historical trends on market platforms like Svmuu.
Core Team and Supporters
IOST was co-founded by Jimmy Zhong, Terrence Wang, Justin Li, Ray Xiao, Sa Wang, and Kevin Tan in January 2018. The team members have backgrounds from prestigious universities such as Princeton University, Harvard University, Carnegie Mellon University, and MIT, and have worked at renowned companies like Google, Deloitte, Morgan Stanley, Uber, and Citadel. The project has received support from top global investment institutions including Sequoia Capital, Matrix Partners, and ZhenFund.

How to Acquire IOST Tokens?
The main ways to acquire IOST tokens include:
1. Purchase through Centralized Exchanges (CEX)
This is the most common and convenient method. Users can register an account and complete identity verification (KYC) on CEXs that support IOST trading (such as LBank, GroveX, WhiteBIT, Binance, Upbit, MEXC, Pionex, CoinW, KuCoin, BTCC, Bittime, BingX, OKX, Bitvavo, Bitget). After registration and verification, users can deposit funds using fiat payment methods like bank transfers, debit/credit cards, or exchange other cryptocurrencies like USDT, ETH, BTC. Then, they can search for trading pairs like IOST/USDT in the spot trading market to make a purchase.
2. Staking

IOST holders can earn additional IOST tokens as rewards by participating in staking. This not only helps maintain network security but also provides passive income for stakers.
3. Participate in Airdrops
The IOST platform has conducted multiple airdrop events. For example, in March 2025, an airdrop was conducted for users holding a specific amount of L1 IOST tokens. Users typically need to meet specific conditions and may need to connect a compatible IOST plugin wallet (such as iWallet Pro) or a wallet supporting the relevant chain (such as MetaMask) to claim.
4. Participate in Community Activities
Some platforms or the IOST community occasionally hold promotional activities such as "Learn2Earn" or "Assist2Earn," where users can earn free IOST tokens by learning about the project or inviting new users.

IOST Token Storage
After purchasing IOST, users can choose to store it in an exchange account for easy trading, or withdraw it to a personal IOST-compatible wallet (such as hardware wallets like Cobo Vault, or software wallets like Guarda, TokenPocket) to enhance asset security. When choosing a personal wallet, it is crucial to properly safeguard your private keys.
