- Network Nervous System (NNS): This is a permissionless, decentralized governance system that operates as a tokenized DAO. The NNS oversees the operation of the Internet Computer network and automatically executes proposals passed by voting.
The main advantage of the Internet Computer lies in its design philosophy, which aims to provide high performance, infinite scalability, and robust interoperability. Since software is deployed directly within mathematical protocols, it is tamper-proof and effectively resistant to infrastructure-level attacks.
ICP Token: Functions and Uses
ICP (Internet Computer Protocol) is the native utility token of the Internet Computer network, playing multiple key roles in the ecosystem:
- Governance: ICP holders can create "neurons" by staking tokens, participate in NNS voting to make decisions on protocol upgrades and network proposals, and receive corresponding governance rewards. Longer staking periods typically grant greater voting power.
- Computational Fuel: ICP can be converted into "cycles" to pay for transaction fees and smart contract computation fees on the network, similar to Ethereum's Gas. Since cycles are burned after use, this introduces a deflationary mechanism for the ICP token.
