What is MANA
Decentraland is an Ethereum-based decentralized virtual reality platform, and MANA is its utility token used for in-platform transactions, governance, and LAND-related economic activities. When understanding MANA supply, it is necessary to look at the "initial cap," "current total supply," and "circulating supply" separately, as these three terms have different meanings and should not be confused.
Initial Cap and Current Total Supply

Public data sets MANA's initial issuance cap at 2.8 billion tokens. The project team locked the token issuance smart contract in November 2018, publicly stating that issuance could not be arbitrarily increased or issuance rules modified thereafter. Because the platform has bought back and burned a portion of MANA through economic activities such as LAND auctions, the current total supply is lower than the initial cap. According to public market data from November 2026, MANA's total supply is approximately 2.19 billion tokens; some platforms show about 2.19 billion to 2.193 billion tokens. If only a scale like "219 million" is seen, which does not match the narrative of an "initial 2.8 billion and over 600 million burned," it usually results from confusing hundreds of millions with billions, and self-consistent supply figures should be used for verification.

Circulating Supply and Circulation Rate
Circulating supply refers to the number of tokens currently circulating in the market. According to public data from the same period, MANA's circulating supply is approximately 1.95 billion to 1.99 billion tokens, accounting for about 90% to 91% of the current total supply. This means the vast majority of tokens have entered circulation, with the difference generally corresponding to reserves, lock-ups, or ecosystem allocation arrangements that have not yet entered circulation; specific release paces should be subject to the latest disclosures by the project team.

Why Total Supply Decreases: The Burn Mechanism
Decentraland's supply is not a static figure. The platform recovers and burns MANA through economic activities like LAND auctions, causing the total supply to decrease from the initial cap. Public data indicates that over 600 million MANA tokens have been burned. Burning reduces the total supply, but does not necessarily reduce the circulating supply; the key is whether the burned tokens were circulating tokens, reserve tokens, or tokens recovered during transaction processes.
Data Standards and Verification
Different platforms may have different statistics for "total supply," "maximum supply," and "circulating supply": some only count the remaining supply after burns, while others display the initial cap or contract records. Readers can check real-time market data and supply metrics on platforms such as Svmuu, CoinMarketCap, and CoinGecko, and prioritize verifying data from the same time point, the same cryptocurrency, and the same supply metric.
How to Understand These Figures
Issuance and circulating supply are the basis for observing token economics, but they do not equate to price performance. For MANA, the initial cap of 2.8 billion, current total supply of approximately 2.19 billion, and circulating supply of roughly 1.95 billion to 1.99 billion jointly demonstrate that: the supply has contracted through burns, and the majority is already in circulation. Subsequent changes still require attention to platform governance, economic activities, the burn pace, and official disclosures.
