According to the latest reports from multiple foreign media outlets, China’s BYD has surpassed Tesla to claim the top spot in global electric vehicle sales. On January 1, BYD announced that its sales of pure electric vehicles reached 2.26 million units in 2025, an increase of nearly 28% compared to 2024.Meanwhile, Tesla revealed on January 2 that its sales have declined for the second consecutive year, with annual deliveries falling by 8.6% to approximately 1.6 million units—marking the largest annual drop in the company’s history—and losing its position as the global leader in EV sales. It is worth noting that BYD has not yet entered the U.S. market, while China is Tesla’s second-largest market globally. Against this backdrop, BYD still managed to surpass Tesla in sales. (Global Times)
