According to the China Three Gorges Corporation, on December 31, China’s largest all-vanadium flow battery energy storage power station—the China Three Gorges Corporation’s Xinjiang Jimusar All-Vanadium Flow Battery Energy Storage Power Station—began full-capacity operations, marking a significant breakthrough for China in the application of large-capacity, long-duration energy storage technology. Located in Jimusar County, Changji Prefecture, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the plant has a rated capacity of 200,000 kilowatts and a storage capacity of 1 million kilowatt-hours, making it the largest all-vanadium flow battery energy storage plant currently in operation in China. During daytime hours when solar panels receive the most sunlight and generate electricity most efficiently, the plant can store surplus electricity that the grid cannot immediately absorb, releasing it at night or during peak demand periods. It is expected to increase the utilization rate of the associated photovoltaic power plant by more than 10% annually, generating up to 230 million kilowatt-hours of additional clean electricity.
