Furthermore, the Supreme Court did not declare President Maduro to be “absolutely absent,” leading some media outlets to analyze that this means a presidential election will not be held within the next 30 days. The Venezuelan Constitution stipulates that if the president is “absent without leave,” power is transferred to the Executive Vice President, and a general election must be held within 30 days.
