ActivTrades analyst Tim Ritschar noted in a report that, against the backdrop of the U.S. arrest of Venezuelan leader Maduro over the weekend and rising political uncertainty in South America, investors may shy away from risky assets such as stocks and corporate bonds. He said, “Given Venezuela’s substantial oil reserves, market participants are closely monitoring the reaction of energy prices and their impact on inflation expectations.” Ritschar added that if geopolitical uncertainty persists, appetite for risk assets could decline in the short term.
