Raphael Thuin, Director of Market Strategy at Tikehau Capital, noted in a report that the market’s reaction to the U.S. move to oust Venezuelan President Maduro has been relatively subdued, reflecting a trend among investors in recent years: largely ignoring geopolitical uncertainties. Thuin stated that in recent years, investors have learned to look beyond geopolitical risks and focus on fundamental drivers such as economic growth, inflation, and corporate earnings, adding that “recent developments in Venezuela appear to fit this pattern.” He believes that Venezuela’s impact on the global economy is limited, and multinational corporations have relatively little exposure to the country. He noted that the long-term outlook for the broader market is unlikely to be affected, but a change in regime would indeed introduce new uncertainties. Tikehau will closely monitor any signs of spillover effects or escalating geopolitical tensions.
