Ashley Kelty, an analyst at Panmure Liberum, said that Britain’s Shell and BP are the European oil giants most likely to benefit from President Donald Trump’s intervention in Venezuela. Kelty believes that while U.S. energy giants will have first dibs on projects, they will need the cooperation of European partners to mitigate risks. With their deep presence in the U.S. market, BP and Shell are expected to be the biggest European winners. He specifically noted that BP had been forced to shelve some projects due to U.S. sanctions; once those sanctions are lifted, BP will be able to leverage these existing projects as bargaining chips to gain access to more new projects.Reflecting these expectations, Shell’s share price rose 0.3% to 2,768.50 pence on Monday, while BP’s rose 0.3% to 439.25 pence.
