Six months after the opening of Douyin Group’s Houhai Center, plans for a “second headquarters” in Shenzhen have also been put on the agenda. On January 5, Shenzhen held an on-site promotion meeting for 2026 project construction, marking the simultaneous groundbreaking of 222 new projects with a total investment of approximately 157.34 billion yuan. According to a review of publicly available information, Nanshan District saw 30 projects break ground simultaneously, with a total investment of 31 billion yuan—the highest among all districts in the city. Among these is the “Pan-Video Technology R&D Headquarters” located in Yuehai Subdistrict. According to "Innovative Nanshan," the project is positioned as Douyin’s second headquarters, focusing on supporting R&D for core products such as Douyin and Toutiao, as well as new businesses like payment services. It will also house the ByteDance AI Lab Research Center and a SaaS platform service center. This is not the first time Douyin has acquired land in Shenzhen. Around July 2025, Douyin Group’s first self-owned and self-built regional headquarters—the Douyin Group Houhai Center—officially opened, serving as the hub for the company’s core functions in the Greater Bay Area, including business management and technology R&D.
