UN Agency: U.S. Interference in Venezuela "Makes Every Country Less Safe"
Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, stated that U.S. interference in Venezuela violates Venezuela’s sovereignty, breaches the United Nations Charter, undermines the international security architecture, and “makes every country less secure.” Speaking at a regular press conference in Geneva that day, Following the U.S. military operations in Venezuela, the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed deep concern over the situation in Venezuela, noting that the U.S. actions undermine a fundamental principle of international law—namely, that states shall not threaten or use force to violate the territorial integrity or political independence of any state. The U.S. actions in Venezuela send a dangerous signal that powerful nations can act with impunity. This undermines the very mechanism we rely on to prevent further conflict—and even a Third World War—namely, the United Nations.
