The China Automobile Dealers Association has released the latest edition of its “Automotive Consumption Index.” The index for December 2025 stood at 97.7, up from the previous month, and the automotive market is expected to get off to a strong start in January 2026. Looking at the sub-indices that make up the Automotive Consumption Index, the demand sub-index for December 2025 stood at 90.3, marking an increase from the previous month. The demand for trade-in purchases, which had been suppressed at the end of 2025 due to the exhaustion of local subsidies, combined with pre-holiday purchasing demand driven by the 2026 Spring Festival, has collectively boosted car-buying demand for January 2026. Market demand in January is expected to exceed that of December 2025.
