China's efforts to internationalize its standards made positive progress in 2025
It was reported today that in 2025, China submitted 505 international standard proposals to ISO and IEC across various fields, including low-carbon energy, biotechnology, artificial intelligence, and industrial networks, representing a 15.83% increase compared to 2024. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China submitted a cumulative total of 1,740 ISO and IEC international standard proposals, representing a 32.12% increase compared to the 13th Five-Year Plan period. In terms of international standard development, in 2025, China led the development and publication of 285 ISO and IEC international standards across various fields, including new energy, smart grids, traditional medicine, and brain-computer interfaces, representing a 26.67% increase compared to 2024. During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China led the development and publication of a cumulative total of 1,183 ISO and IEC international standards, an increase of 88.1% compared to the 13th Five-Year Plan period. Regarding the compilation and publication of foreign-language versions of national standards, 441 such versions were published in 2025, and four special initiatives were launched to develop and implement foreign-language versions of national standards in the fields of Beidou navigation, intelligent manufacturing, cybersecurity, and the joint construction of the “Belt and Road.” During the 14th Five-Year Plan period, the number of foreign-language versions of national standards increased to 2,779, representing a growth of over 200% compared to the 13th Five-Year Plan period.
