The U.S. Supreme Court is set to rule on the Donald Trump tariff case
Svmuu News: The U.S. Supreme Court is set to rule in the coming days on whether the global tariffs imposed by the government under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act are lawful. If the tariffs are ruled invalid, importers may face a potential battle to secure refunds of up to $150 billion in tariffs already paid to the U.S. government. The core challenge lies in the uncertainty of the refund process: even if they prevail, businesses generally expect Donald Trump the government to delay or deny refunds.Although U.S. Customs has announced plans to launch an electronic refund system, the details of a fully automated process remain unclear. To secure their rights in advance, several major importers, including Costco, have filed preemptive lawsuits, while a secondary market has emerged where small and medium-sized enterprises are selling their refund claims to hedge funds at extremely low discounts (a few cents on the dollar).Experts advise that companies should immediately organize and verify detailed records of all duties paid, and prepare to apply for refunds in accordance with the law as soon as a ruling is issued, in order to navigate the complex legal and administrative procedures that could last for years.
