Svmuu News: U.S. PresidentDonald Trumpannounced that he will direct relevant officials to purchase $200 billion in mortgage-backed securities (MBS), with the initiative to be jointly carried out by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The goal is to lower mortgage rates and reduce monthly payments.Bill Pulte, Director of the U.S. Office of Housing Finance, stated that this initiative does not require congressional approval. Under existing agreements between the two agencies and the U.S. Treasury Department, each agency may increase its MBS purchase limit by up to approximately $100 billion.The current average interest rate for a 30-year fixed-rate mortgage is approximately 6.16%, and the Federal Reserves have cumulatively cut rates by 75 basis points over the past year.
