Robinhood is driving the "democratization" of private equity, and Vlad Tenev has once again outlined his vision for equity tokenization
Svmuu News: Robinhood CEO Vlad Tenev rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange last Friday to celebrate the launch of Robinhood Ventures Fund I, a private market investment vehicle. This closed-end fund is designed to give retail investors indirect exposure to hot private tech companies. Investors can trade shares on the secondary market but cannot redeem the underlying assets from the platform. Trading performance was under pressure on the first day of listing, with the share price falling as much as 11% from the offering price at one point. Vlad Tenev stated that Robinhood is continuing to drive the opening up of the private market and the tokenization of assets. The company hopes to use blockchain technology and new financial structures to give ordinary investors access to equity in private companies that has traditionally been open only to institutions and accredited investors. Robinhood has previously tested tokenized versions of shares in private companies such as OpenAI in Europe as part of its exploration of bringing private equity onto the blockchain. (Fortune)
