French Couple Robbed by Fake Police, Forced to Hand Over Approximately $1 Million in Bitcoin
Svmuu News A French couple in their 50s were robbed at their home in western Paris by fake police officers and forced to transfer approximately 900,000 euros (around $1 million) worth of Bitcoin. The incident occurred on Monday morning when three suspects posing as police officers broke into the residence in Le Chesnay-Rocquencourt, threatened the couple with a knife, and forced the husband to transfer Bitcoin. The criminals then tied up the man, injured both victims, and fled in a white van. The wife later freed her husband and alerted neighbors and police around 9 a.m. local time. The case is being investigated by France's anti-violent crime unit, with charges including unlawful confinement, armed robbery by an organized gang, and criminal conspiracy. As of Tuesday, no arrests have been reported. This case reflects a rise in "wrench attacks" targeting cryptocurrency asset holders. According to data from cybersecurity platform CertiK, there were 72 verified cases globally in 2025, a 75% increase from the previous year, with 19 cases occurring in France, the highest number worldwide.
