Aave Founder: DAOs Have Not Failed, but They Need to Evolve to Improve Operational Efficiency
Svmuu News: Stani Kulechov, founder and CEO of Aave, stated that decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) are not coming to an end, but they must undergo structural evolution to improve decision-making efficiency and support the long-term development of the protocol. In a lengthy post on X on Tuesday, Kulechov summarized his views on the DAO governance model in light of recent governance controversies within Aave. Previously, internal governance conflicts within the Aave DAO led the core contributor team BGD Labs and ACI to temporarily step back from protocol-related work, sparking widespread discussion within the community. Kulechov pointed out that current DAO governance models are often too slow—for example, they require weeks of forum discussions, temperature checks, and multiple rounds of formal voting—making it difficult for protocols to keep pace with market dynamics in decision-making and product iteration. At the same time, DAO governance is prone to becoming increasingly politicized, with participants potentially forming alliances and relying on loud voices to push proposals through. He stated: “Many crypto project founders think this way, but few say it openly—running a DAO the way we do now is very difficult, and this difficulty isn’t a technical challenge, but rather a daily struggle against the organizational structure itself.” ” Despite this, Kulechov emphasized that DAOs still hold significant value, but their governance structures and execution mechanisms need optimization. This would allow them to maintain decentralization while achieving more efficient execution, thereby helping Aave continue to expand within the global multi-trillion-dollar lending market.
