British media: Some European countries are in talks with Iran to resume shipping through the Strait of Hormuz
Svmuu News: According to the Financial Times, several European countries, including France, have begun negotiations with Iran to reach an agreement that would ensure the safe passage of their ships through the Strait of Hormuz, thereby restoring energy shipments in the Gulf region. Three officials familiar with the negotiations said that several European countries have begun preliminary discussions in an attempt to resume oil and gas exports without escalating the conflict. Two officials said France is among the countries involved in the talks. A third official said Italy has also attempted to engage with Iran on the issue. European nations have consistently sought to avoid direct involvement in the conflict, with some even criticizing the initial strikes launched by the U.S. and Israel against Iran. However, governments are deeply concerned that a prolonged blockade of the strait could drive up energy costs for businesses and households. Another official noted that some European countries oppose efforts to engage with Iran. British officials stated that the UK is not conducting direct negotiations with Iran regarding access to the Strait. However, British Foreign Secretary Cooper, who is currently visiting Saudi Arabia, is discussing the issue of sustained oil supplies with Gulf nations.
