Officials stated that the assessment indicates the Iranian government believes it holds a strong position in the war and does not need to yield to U.S. diplomatic demands. They said that although Iran is willing to keep communication channels open, the country distrusts the United States and believes President Trump is not sincere about negotiations. Over the past year, Trump has twice ordered attacks on Iran while negotiations over its nuclear program were ongoing. These assessments align with recent statements from Iranian officials.
