The statement pointed out that, as a major coastal state bordering the Strait of Hormuz, Iran has the legitimate right to take necessary and proportionate measures in response to emerging security threats. Iran emphasized that these measures are aimed at ensuring navigational safety and preventing the Strait of Hormuz from being used for hostile or military purposes. The statement accused the United States of illegal actions that jeopardize international navigation safety.
