Svmuunews, May 8 - Christian Lindmeier, a spokesperson for the World Health Organization, stated that the WHO has initiated a response to the current hantavirus outbreak under the International Health Regulations. In addition to the cruise ship involved in this outbreak, contact tracing of potential exposures is also ongoing.
Addressing public concerns about the transmissibility of the hantavirus, Lindmeier emphasized that the virus is not highly contagious and does not spread easily from person to person. Some individuals who had close contact with infected patients during this outbreak have tested negative for the virus, which underscores that the risk hantavirus poses to the general population is very low.
