Svmuu reported that according to the New York Times, three officials revealed that U.S. President Donald Trump has tightened the terms of a potential framework agreement aimed at ending the war in Iran, and has sent these amendments back to Iran for its consideration. It remains unclear what specific changes Trump made to the text of the agreement.
Two officials stated that Trump is concerned about the portion of the potential agreement involving the unfreezing of Iranian funds. He has consistently been critical of former President Barack Obama for taking the same approach in the agreement signed over a decade ago to curb Iran's nuclear program. One official noted that Trump is also frustrated by Iran's prolonged delay in responding to the U.S. proposals. These proposals were formed through repeated consultations involving intermediaries, including Pakistan.
The official added that Trump's proposed amendments — a stricter new proposal — may be intended to accelerate the process by putting pressure on Iran to accept the framework agreement that has already been submitted to its Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, for approval. (Jinshi)
