Taiko ERC20 Vault Hacked, Losing Over $1 Million
Svmuu News: Taiko’s ERC20 Vault on Ethereum was compromised, resulting in losses exceeding $1 million. The root cause of the vulnerability lies in a flaw in the proof verification mechanism of Taiko’s cross-chain bridge. A specially crafted message proof was accepted as valid on the L1 at Ethereum without requiring a corresponding legitimate MessageSent event on Taiko’s source chain, enabling the attacker to register and retrieve fraudulent cross-chain messages and unauthorizedly release assets from the ERC20 Vault.
