Svmuu News: Switzerland’s inflation rate fell slightly in June, marking the first decline since prices surged due to rising energy costs following the outbreak of the war in Iran. The Swiss Federal Statistical Office said Thursday that the annual inflation rate in June was 0.5%, down from 0.6% in April and May. Inflation in those two months had reached its highest level since 2024.
The data showed that prices for petroleum products rose 15% year-over-year in June, though this represented a moderation from May; airfare prices, which are particularly sensitive to global energy prices, also declined; meanwhile, prices for hotels and car rentals increased. The slight decline in inflation also corroborates the view of Swiss National Bank Governor Schlegel. At last month’s monetary policy meeting, he stated that although the conflict in the Middle East has triggered energy price shocks, medium-term inflationary pressures have generally remained stable.
