Svmuu News: Citrini analyst jukan posted on X, stating that the world’s three largest memory chip manufacturers have halted in-house development of Compute Express Link (CXL) controllers and are instead adopting chips designed by external fabless companies.
Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Micron have all scaled back or canceled their plans to commercialize CXL expansion device controllers. Micron was the first to halt in-house controller R&D and adopt PrimeMass’s solution; SK hynix has also notified its major partners that it is terminating its internal CXL controller development project and reassigning relevant personnel to the processing-in-memory (PIM) initiative. Samsung Electronics, meanwhile, is using its in-house CXL controller solely for research within its R&D team, while reportedly sourcing controllers from fabless suppliers for external products. Industry insiders indicate that Samsung has removed its in-house controller from formal commercialization projects, retaining it only for cutting-edge R&D initiatives.
