AI-Assisted Hacking Outpaces Traditional Code Reviews; NEAR Co-Founder Advocates for Formal Verification
Svmuu News: Illia Polosukhin, co-founder of NEAR Protocol, stated that AI is significantly accelerating hackers’ ability to discover software vulnerabilities, and traditional code review models are no longer sufficient to address this threat. He pointed out that the Balancer incident last October marked the beginning of AI-assisted hacking, and that the old model reliant on manual review is no longer sustainable in the AI era. Polosukhin advocates for the adoption of formal verification, which uses mathematical proofs to ensure that code behavior fully aligns with specifications. AI can generate the majority of these proofs, which are then verified by humans to ensure their correctness, significantly reducing the time required to generate them. He believes that formal verification should be expanded beyond smart contracts to cover critical internet and network software. On the same day, NEAR released an upgrade allowing users to switch to post-quantum account keys, while the network can automatically scale its capacity as activity grows.
