Svmuu News: According to sources familiar with the matter, Pakistan has requested $10 billion from the United States to stabilize its exchange rate. If approved, the fund would provide a lifeline to the financially strained South Asian economy. Pakistan’s previous role in facilitating negotiations related to the Iran conflict has bolstered its diplomatic influence and raised expectations that it might secure economic benefits from Washington and other partners.
In its request to U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent, Islamabad is seeking a $10 billion bilateral exchange rate stabilization support fund between the U.S. and Pakistani governments, with a maximum term of five years. If approved, the arrangement would bolster Pakistan’s reserves, ease pressure on the Pakistani rupee, and reduce its reliance on multilateral financing, while Islamabad would also implement stricter fiscal and monetary policies in accordance with the International Monetary Fund’s program.
