Svmuu News: Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has reached an agreement with Anthropic under which AMD will invest up to $5 billion in Anthropic and sign a partnership for the procurement of AI servers worth tens of billions of dollars.
Under the agreement, starting in the first half of 2027, Anthropic may procure up to 2 gigawatts of total computing power from AMD’s next-generation Instinct MI450 chips. AMD stated that this investment will be tied to agreed-upon computing power deployment targets.
AMD CEO Lisa Su said that the two companies’ engineering teams have already begun joint research and development, and that AMD hopes to be deeply involved in the construction of Anthropic’s computing infrastructure. Anthropic currently uses a variety of computing solutions, including Google TPUs, Amazon Trainium chips, and NVIDIA GPUs. (The Wall Street Journal)
