Svmuu News: Japan is expected to launch a "Bitcoin" ETF as early as 2028. With the revised Financial Instruments and Exchange Act bringing crypto assets under the regulatory scope of financial products, Japan’s Financial Services Agency plans to amend rules governing investment trusts to allow funds and ETFs to hold crypto assets as their primary investment targets; several asset management firms are already considering participation.Interest in crypto assets among Japanese institutional investors is on the rise. A survey by Nomura Holdings and Laser Digital found that approximately 79% of institutional investors and family offices indicated plans to invest in crypto assets within the next three years.
However, unlike in the U.S., where Bitcoin ETFs are primarily driven by institutional capital, the scale of Japanese institutional investors is relatively limited, and cash accounts for a high proportion of household financial assets; therefore, funds from individual investors may become the main source of capital. Some analysts believe that Japanese Bitcoin ETFs could attract up to 3 trillion yen in capital inflows by fiscal year 2028. (Nikkei)
